Intensivists

Intensivists, also called critical care physicians, are physicians who work in the hospital’s ICU to provide patients with continuous and consistent care. Intensivists must be board-certified in a medical specialty such as surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics or anesthesiology, and also receive special training and subspecialty certification in critical care. Intensivists coordinate the clinical care of each patient and manage the ICU by facilitating communication among primary care physicians, specialists, patients and their families.
